Through customs in Larne, Belfast, NI, up on board the ferry, slight sea swell and we’re off.
We arrived into Edinburgh city for 20.00hrs on Wednesday evening and familiarized ourselves with the surroundings. After introducing ourselves to the pubs we were about to play in, we decided to have a pint.
Thursday & Friday night we played to a crowded house in Malone’s Bar and what an event. A very special occasion for Evin after meeting his Scottish cousins that he had not seen in 20yrs. Saturday night we played to a jointed Dropkick Murphys pub from 11.50pm until 04.30hrs in the morning. After entertaining, jumping, dancing, drinking, singing and playing on the counters, seats, stools and stage, it ended with a mighty demand for “One More Tune….”. What a venue, what a gig, absolutely brilliant. Sunday evening we unloaded the van into Biddy Mulligan’s bar on the Grassmarket. Poor Maria (the assistant manager of the pub) had never seen so much band gear and started to panic, however, we assured her our volume button works both to turn up and to turn down. This pub normally would have 2 piece bands playing and I think the fright and fear in Maria’s eyes was hysterical. After the gig, the only complaint was that we couldn’t play for longer. After us, we have to mention a fantastic duo called “Salmon of Knowledge” comprising of Chris (an Aberdeen native) and Aaron (a Greystones native) both now living in Edinburgh. Such harmonizing and selection of songs were fantastic.
What an adventure, we will definetely be back Edinburgh……real soon!!!!
